EVERETT, Wash /PRNewswire/ — Boeing [NYSE: BA] delivered Etihad Airways’ first 787-9 Dreamliner sporting the airline’s new “Facets of Abu Dhabi” livery which was revealed at a ceremony earlier in 2014. The colors are reminiscent of the desert landscape, inspired by the culture, Islamic design and architecture motifs of the United Arab Emirates.

The airplane is the first of the 71 Dreamliner’s that the national airline of the United Arab Emirates has on order which includes 41 787-9s and 30 787-10s. Etihad Airways will also be the first airline in the Middle East to operate the 787-9.

“We are confident that the additions of the 787 Dreamliner to our growing fleet will enable us to continue to add vital long-haul destinations from our Abu Dhabi hub,” said Peter Baumgartner, chief commercial officer for Etihad Airways. “We will first use the aircraft on routes to cities such as Dusseldorf, Washington D.C., Mumbai, Brisbane and Moscow and will have over 70 within the fleet, once our order is complete.

In addition to bringing big-jet ranges to midsize airplanes, the 787 provides airlines with unmatched fuel efficiency, resulting in exceptional environmental performance. The family uses 20 to 30 percent less fuel with 20 to 30 percent fewer emissions than the airplanes they replace. The airplane also has more cargo revenue capacity – a 20 to 45 percent advantage over replacement airplanes.

Customer satisfaction means giving the airlines that operate Airbus aircraft exactly what they want. This was achieved on 22 December when A350 XWB MSN006 was delivered to launch customer Qatar Airways, widely recognized for insisting on the highest possible standards for its passengers. The airline has ordered 80 of the world’s most advanced airliners and the on-time, on-quality delivery is the culmination of eight years’ hard work from everyone involved in the A350 XWB programme.

As the delivery ceremony got started Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said, “This is a very proud moment for Qatar Airways, we have watched this dynamic aircraft grow to be truly ahead of the curve and I am delighted to welcome the latest generation into our rapidly expanding fleet. “We wanted to fly the first prototype before Paris airshow 2013 and we did it,” Fabrice Brégier told guests. “We wanted to certify this aircraft in the third quarter of 2014, meaning the shortest certification process in aircraft history, and we did it. We wanted to deliver this aircraft a couple of months later and we did it. So I am very proud of the teams led by Didier Evrard and all teams in the functions who supported them. It’s a perfect match, to be handing over the first of an all-new, world class aircraft to a leading world class airline.”

“We are very proud to have worked with Qatar Airways and Airbus on the A350 XWB, using the latest technology to deliver new standards in customer service,” added Eric Schulz, President, Civil Large Engines at Rolls-Royce, the exclusive engine manufacturer. SkyWest, Inc. Confirms Order for Seven E175 jets

São José dos Campos, Brazil, November 25, 2014 – Embraer S.A. (BM&FBOVESPA: EMBR3, NYSE: ERJ) and SkyWest, Inc. (SkyWest), have confirmed a firm order for seven E175 jets. The aircraft will be flown by SkyWest Airlines under a Capacity Purchase Agreement (CPA) with Alaska Airlines. The value of the firm order, which will be included in Embraer’s 2014 fourth-quarter backlog, is estimated at USD 301 million, based on 2014 list prices.

These aircraft are part of SkyWest’s previous order for 100 (40 firm and 60 re confirmable), E175 current generation E-Jets – with an additional 100 options – placed in May 2013, taking the firm order number to a total of 47. “We’re pleased to expand our relationship with Embraer,” said SkyWest, Inc. President Russell “Chip” Childs. “With 15 E175s already flying in the SkyWest network, we couldn’t be more pleased with the design and performance of these state-of-the-art E-Jets.”
SkyWest is the largest regional airline group in the world and is the parent company of SkyWest Airlines and ExpressJet Airlines. Both companies have long histories with Embraer and were early customers for the Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia turboprop aircraft.

SkyWest Airlines operates a fleet of approximately 15 E175 and 39 EMB 120 Brasilia aircraft. ExpressJet Airlines operates 226 aircraft of the ERJ 145 family and is the largest ERJ operator in the world.

Azul Brazilian Airlines has signed a purchase agreement for 35 A320neo Family aircraft. The airline, which is also leasing another 28 A320neo aircraft, has chosen the A320neo Family to carry out domestic long haul flights and high density routes, including Campinas – Salvador and Campinas – Recife. For Azul, an important driver for selecting the A320neo was the aircraft’s low operating costs and excellent fuel efficiency. Azul has selected CFM engines for their A320neo fleet.

“Azul is an airline that truly serves all of Brazil. With more than 100 destinations , Azul will soon offer even more seats on our longer haul flights, allowing us to reduce operating costs,” said David Neeleman, CEO and Founder of Azul. “In addition to its market leading economics, which will allow Azul to stimulate new demand, the A320neo is also a perfect complement to our E-Jet fleet, giving us additional seats and capacity that can be dedicated to strategic projects like TudoAzul, Azul Viagens and Azul Cargo.”

In April, Azul announced that it would start operating long haul flights by early December. The airline expects to fly new international routes with a fleet of 12 leased wide body Airbus aircraft, including seven Airbus A330-200 and later five Airbus A350-900 equipped with Rolls-Royce engines.

Airbus has obtained regulatory approval for training of A350 XWB airline pilots in accordance with the original goal of an A330/A350 “Common Type Rating” (CTR). This will enable Azul pilots to benefit from reduced training time in the transition from one Airbus jetliner model to another, resulting in significant benefits for airline profitability, pilot productivity and scheduling flexibility.‎
