AviancaTaca A330 delivery marks major milestone with 100th Airbus

AviancaTaca took delivery of its ninth A330-200 on September 17 at Airbus headquarters in Toulouse, France. The aircraft is powered by Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines.

The highly efficient, modern A330-200 widebody aircraft is configured to seat 252 passengers – 30 in business class and 222 in economy. The A330-200 has the versatility to cover all ranges from short-haul to true long haul, ideal for point-to-point operations. Additional economic benefits include operational commonality with the A330-200 Freighter, of which the airline has ordered four, exceptional operational reliability and superb fuel efficiency. Across all its aircraft families Airbus’ unique approach ensures that aircraft share the highest commonality in airframes, on-board systems, cockpits and handling characteristics. This significantly reduces operating costs for airlines.

“AviancaTaca’s has one of the youngest fleets in Latin America, averaging five years,” said Rafael Alonso, Executive Vice President of Airbus in Latin America & Caribbean. “We couldn’t be prouder that AviancaTaca has based their fleet modernization and expansion programs on Airbus and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones with AviancaTaca.”

The A330-200 offers a higher takeoff weight (TOW) capability of 238 metric tonnes achieved with no OEW increase. This translates into around 330nm more range, giving the aircraft 7,250nm endurance, or an extra 3.4 tonnes of payload. With more than 1,220 orders to date and more than 900 aircraft delivered to over 90 operators, the A330 Family is achieving average dispatch reliability above 99 percent.

With nearly an all-Airbus fleet, AviancaTaca has combined orders for 190 aircraft and now operates 100 Airbus aircraft, including 91 A320 Family and nine A330 aircraft. AviancaTaca has a backlog of more than 80 Airbus aircraft.

The E175 is configured with 12 business class and 64 economy class seats enabling the airline to offer a consistent, dual class product standard across all aircraft types in its fleet. The carrier plans to deploy its new E-Jets on routes between Minsk and Moscow-Domodedovo, Saint-Petersburg, Baku, Paris, Yerevan and Milan.

Embraer’s presence in Eastern Europe and Central Asia is steadily increasing. Belavia is the ninth Embraer E-Jets customer in the region, along with Montenegro Airlines, Air Moldova, Bulgaria Air, Aerosvit, Wind Rose Aviation Air Astana, LOT Polish and Estonian Air and the third operator of the E175 – LOT was the first and Estonian the second. There are more than 340 E170s/E175s flying with airlines around the world.

“We welcome this first E175 as a key aircraft in supporting our company’s strategic development plan which will allow us to better match capacity to demand on our main European routes,” said Anatoly Gusarov, Director General of Belavia. “The aircraft’s seating capacity complements our narrow-body fleet, flying where it would be uneconomical to deploy larger aircraft and offering equivalent passenger comfort.”

US Airways and American Airlines Potential Merger Closer

Labor Day weekend is upon us and after reading and following this possible merger for a long time we are skeptical as to the job losses. Without a doubt from the Delta / NWA merger it broke up a great family within Northwest. Being involved in the airline industry on and off since mid-1980’s many come and so many have gone.

US Airways has been aggressive and the C.E.O for that airline has not been too honest with tactics in the past. Having met with American Airlines unions earlier this year. Even reading between the lines we are sure many have strong feelings and concerns about this merger. Our opinion or concerns will make no matter the outcome of such a powerful source. However we ask for American Airline employees and others to speak up now or forever hold your peace because it’s only a matter of time.

If anyone has been around for a while you know what’s ahead. If you have not, why not read some of the history since deregulation. Airline Adviser consults and offers marketing, media and soon advertising starting after Labor Day weekend in September 2012.
